The No7 knife from Opinel is the perfect choice for those who find the No6 to be a bit too small. This "in-between" size knife is neither too small nor too big, striking the perfect balance. Opinel, a company with a rich history, has been manufacturing its knives in the heart of the French Alps since its creation in 1890.
Opinel's production facility in Chambray (Savoie, France) covers an impressive area of nearly 60,000 square feet and employs 110 people, with 60 working directly in the production process. The company's entire product range, including traditional pocket knives with carbon steel and stainless steel blades, specialist pocket knives, sharp slim pocket knives, garden tools, and elegant table knives, are entirely manufactured in this factory.
Except for the kitchen knives and table knives, the molds and cutting tools have been developed by Opinel, and the wooden handles are made in Chambray. These various components are then assembled and sharpened in Opinel's plant in Portugal.
Opinel knives are traditionally sold without any retail packaging, a conscious decision to reduce waste and promote sustainability. The knives are minimally packaged in clear plastic zip bags, tailored to the size of each knife.
The Opinel No7 knife features the Virobloc safety ring, an invention by Marcel Opinel in 1955. This stainless steel safety ring, with a fixed and a sliding section, allows for locking the blade both in the open and closed positions, ensuring safety during use and while carrying the knife.
Opinel's knives, renowned for their strength and resistance, are designed to withstand the demands of woodwork, steelwork, and the incorporation of new materials such as top-of-the-range synthetic polymers. These knives are built to last a lifetime and are often passed down from generation to generation.
